A-Power Energy Generation Systems has signed a “definitive” $86m contract with Thailand’s Biomass Electricity Company to develop a 150 megawatt biomass power plant in Prachinburi, 150 kilometers east of Bangkok, Thailand.
The contract covers plant design, procurement of major components and installation. A-Power will also be general contractor for main plant systems.
Ground preparation began this month and estimated project completion is 27 months. Total cost is estimated at $192m.
Rice husks will be the primary feedstock with waste wood and wood chips secondary inputs for the plant. Biomass Electricity has signed long-term supply contracts for the rice husks.
Fuel composition in the initial years of operation will be 90% rice husks and 10% wood products, gradually changing to 75% rice husks and 25% wood products.
About 90MW of power will be sold to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand and 60MW to a nearby industrial park.
Both bottom ash and fly ash produced by the plant will be used for local cement production.
A-Power, based in Shenyang, China, is that country’s largest supplier of distributed power generation systems. More recently it has begun production of wind turbines for the domestic and export markets.
