Archer Daniels Midland Company has opened a new ethanol dry mill in Columbus, Nebraska.
The facility provides ADM with an extra 300 million gallons of ethanol production capacity each year.
Once a second corn dry mill is completed in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, later this year, ADM said its total ethanol production at more than 230 plants would reach 1.8 billion gallons each year.
Last year, total ethanol consumption in the US was 10.6 billion gallons. Under the Renewable Fuel Standard, this is expected to rise to 15 billion gallons a year by 2022.

The company began operations in Columbus in 2002, when it acquired a corn wet mill from Minnesota Corn Processors LLC.
The new plant is located next to the corn wet mill and a cogeneration facility.
John Rice, ADM executive vice president said: “Having these operations in the same complex provides us with an advantage, not just in terms of production efficiency, but also in terms of access to our nationwide transportation network, to a ready supply of Nebraska corn, and to a talented work force.”
ADM, which has its head office in Decatur, Illinois, said as well as building capacity for corn-based ethanol production, it is also currently working to develop advanced biofuels from biomass such as corn stover – the stalks, cobs and leaves of corn plants – as well as grasses, wood and other crop residues.
