Aston University Project to
Develop Technology for Bio-Oil
Conversion into Renewable
Energy
The BERG (Bioenergy Research Group) of the Aston University is currently involved in a project worth ₤1.4 million that is aimed towards the development of novel technologies for transforming bio-oil into an efficient renewable energy source that has the potential to replace fuels like diesel.
The Research Council of Norway has partly funded this Bio-oil Refinery Project, which will develop novel, integrated bio-oil technology for converting biomass into biofuels more efficiently by way of fast pyrolysis, the process for heating materials without the presence of oxygen.
This project includes the conversion of biomass materials such as waste wood and tree bark into utilizable oil for the needs of power and transportation. This project is coordinated by Norway’s Paper and Fibre Institute and other partners from Sweden and Norway.
