Officials in San Antonio, Texas, have celebrated the opening of a new biogas facility at the Dos Rios Water Recycling Center.
The San Antonio Water System facility captures methane gas generated during the sewage treatment process, cleaning it up for sale through a commercial gas pipeline.
Previously, the biogas was flared off, but a 20-year partnership with Massachusetts-based Ameresco will make use of the gas, with a $200,000-a-year royalty to ratepayers.
