What do we do in a world where a commodity like oil is soon to reach the point of extinction? Or where natural gas has been used to the point of exhaustion?
The answer is clear and simple, and may have been in front of you all this time — we turn to Mother Nature once again, only this time in the form of wood.
Biomass boilers, unlike its predecessors that used either gas, coal or the infamous oil to generate heat, uses wood products. Hot water is the result of biomass burning, which in turn also produces heat. But just because biomass boilers use products of wood to create something useful, that does not mean we feed them an old tacky chair or a stack of papers from your office desk — the wood has to be refined and clean in order to extract the maximum efficiency. Hence a biomass heater and fine wood just might be the perfect amalgamation to keep you warm and cozy for a lesser price.
You may, however, have some concerns regarding the size of the boilers, which may be slightly larger than their counter parts fossil fuel heaters. And they might be somewhat complex in terms of storing the wood if you have been using oil or gas. They are bigger than its opponents since wood has to be burnt in extreme temperature which is why the brick lining has to be attached to a large box of fire. But the size is almost an insignificant issue since you would not only be saving money, or the non-renewable resources, you would also be contributing towards the environment.
These environmental friendly heaters can be used either for a single room or an entire building. What makes them a perfect alternative to other heating systems is that they have no repercussions on the environment. The carbon dioxide gas that is eliminated when you burn the biomass is equal to the carbon dioxide absorbed by that biomass material over the span of its life. This way the placidity of the carbon cycle is undisturbed, and the issue of global warming can in no way be related to it. Moreover, the modern boilers work in a way which makes it free from any sign of dust particles, which is so much we can say about the systems fired by oil. Also, due to the high energy composition of biomass and fairly painless maintenance and handling, it is very economical to move it from one place to another.
The fact that biomass boilers produce heat making use of almost every bit of energy stored inside the wood make it an ideal candidate in terms of efficiency. Compared to other wasteful ways of generating electricity biomass is an excellent alternative that can be used for high-end regular energy production with minimal impact upon the environment. The only hitch is getting to the point where this can become feasible in today’s society.
