China Everbright to start bioenergy project in Anhui

China Everbright Group, a state-owned investment enterprise, recently announced that China Everbright International Ltd. plans to start construction on a bioenergy project in Dangshan County, Anhui Province, sources reported.

The parent has inked a cooperative agreement with the local government to put the project into operation in 2012. The power station will generate electricity from household waste, rotten fruit and straw.

Initially, the parent will invest RMB 331 million to build two furnaces, each of which will be capable of burning 75 tons of straw per hour, and to build two 18-MW steam generators. After that, a furnace and an 18-MW steam generator will be built.

China Everbright Group, established in 1983, has two Hong Kong-listed subsidiaries: China Everbright International and China Everbright Ltd<0165>. In 2008, the large group reaped nearly RMB 10 billion in net profit. It had almost RMB 1 trillion in total assets at the end of the same year.
