Research efforts led by the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center to turn algae into renewable energygot a $44 million boost Wednesday.

U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced Wednesday the investment of $78 million in federal stimulus money for advanced biofuels research and fueling infrastructure that will help support the development of a clean sustainable transportation sector.

The National Alliance for Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts, led by the Danforth Center, is getting $44 million of that to commercialize algae into a biofuel.

“This award cements St. Louis as a center for the development of renewable energy from algae,” said Dr. Richard Sayre, director of the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Institute for Renewable Fuels at the Danforth Center. “This award is a tribute to the tireless efforts of Dr. Jose Olivares, the principal investigator on the project and the consortium members to build the best possible program.”

Other NAABB members are the Los Alamos National Laboratory, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, University of Arizona, Brooklyn College, Colorado State University, New Mexico State University, www.sexchat-camsex.com Sex Chat Texas AgriLife Research-Texas A&M University System, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, University of Washington, Washington University in St. Louis, Washington State University, AXI, Catalin, Diversified Energy, Eldorado Biofuels, Genifuel, HR Biopetroleum, Inventure, Kai BioEnergy, Palmer Labs, Solix Biofuels, Targeted Growth, Terrabon and UOP.

The remaining $34 million Chu announced Wednesday is going to National Advanced Biofuels Consortium led by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to develop infrastructure compatible, biomass-based hydrocarbon fuels.
