Defendant sentenced for crimes with Nettleton biodiesel plant
Tuesday, July 20, 2010

ABERDEEN, Miss. - A man has been sentenced to five years in prison for scamming the federal government out of nearly $3 million to keep a biodiesel plant in Nettleton afloat.

Tommy Tacker found out his punishment Monday afternoon in a brief hearing at the federal courthouse in Aberdeen in front of Judge Glen Davidson.

Tacker was found guilty in February of ten counts of conspiracy, fraud and wrongful profiting in obtaining the money from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for his failing biofuels business.

Prosecutors say he teamed up with a Tennessee attorney, H. Max Speight, and filed false documents with the USDA to get the money.

Speight agreed to plead guilty in February to one of the ten counts against him in exchange for helping prosecutors with their case.
