The IS 393 is the energy equivalent of the ISO 14001 for environmental management systems and is the basis for the design of the new EU energy standard.

The energy review is the cornerstone of IS 393; it provides an understanding of where energy is used within the organisation and thus forms the basis for prioritising the efforts to reduce energy usage.
