Following a redesign and testing, General Electric (NYSE: GE) introduced its Waukesha 1 MW APG1000 gas engine that can use a wider variety of biogases, including from landfills, wastewater treatment plants and agricultural waste.
The new unit’s biogas capabilities follow 18 months of redesign and testing that included modifications to the combustion chamber; a new spark plug design and a new fuel control system intended to simplify engine start-up and operation. The APG1000 is also available for natural gas applications with the option of incorporating Waukesha combined heat and power technology.
GE recently acquired Dresser Inc., the parent company of Waukesha Engine.
