Seneca BioEnergy wins $750K grant
Tuesday, November 23, 2010

ROMULUS - Seneca BioEnergy, LLC won a Restore New York grant worth $750,000 for infrastructure improvements at the former Seneca Army Depot in Romulus.

The company is developing a facility at the depot to produce biofuels and other products from agricultural crops.

In addition to Seneca BioEnergy's grant, the New York State Electric & Gas Corp. (NYSEG) will use a $1.5 million Restore New York grant for electrical upgrades at the site. The company's grant will go toward a number of improvements including water upgrades and work on a shipping and receiving area.

Seneca BioEnergy is working with the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency to begin operations in 2011 at the depot. The company recently completed a pilot project in the processing of grape waste and the production of grape seed oil.

The firm has also launched a pilot program that will produce soybean oil and soybean meal and refine the oil into fuel.

"The Seneca BioEnergy facility is the anchor site for other redevelopment at the depot," CEO Michael Coia said in a news release. "We want to fill our park with green energy companies and environmentally-sustainable agribusinesses that will support the new economy."
