Wheat use for UK bioethanol production is expected to increase in 2010/11 relative to 2009/10, according to the latest Defra supply and demand estimates for cereals.
Total wheat availability is seen down by 0.30 million tonnes to 17.78mt, with lower opening stocks and estimated imports more than compensating for a larger crop.
The Defra crop production survey put the 2010/11 UK wheat harvest at 14.83mt, up 0.76mt on last season mainly on larger planted area, but below initial expectations as a result of below average crop yields.
Human and industrial consumption, including that for starch and biofuel, is put at 7.58mt, up 0.72mt on last season.
According to HGCA there is an expectation that there will be a large rise in wheat usage for bioethanol production relative to 2009/10 with other H&I usage remaining at similar levels.
UK wheat use for bioethanol will be covered at HGCA Biofuels conference.
You can watch the full morning session of the conference live, right here at
www.farmersguardian.com. To watch the conference, all you have to do is register your interest and the event will be streamed live to your PC, giving you access to all the latest information on biofuels in the UK.
You will be able to view any of the morning presentations and submit your own questions, via your computer, to be put to the speakers live on the day
The event – the first of its kind for Farmers Guardian – is free to watch online and attendance qualifies for two NRoSO points.
