MANILA, Philippines - Subsidiaries of British firm Global Green Power PLC Corp. (GGPC) have signed contracts that would pave the way for the construction of three biomass power projects.
In a statement Monday, GGPC said that subsidiaries Green Power Panay Philippines Inc. and Green Power Nueva Ecija Philippines Inc. have signed engineering procurement and construction contracts with Finnish firm Poyry Energy Inc. and Chinese firm DP CleanTech.
The Panay subsidiary will put up a 17.5-megawatt (MW) biomass power facility in Mina, Iloilo, while the Nueva Ecija firm will set up a similarly sized plant in the area.
Poyry will be handling the Panay plant, while DP CleanTech will be taking care of the Nueva Ecija facility.
Another GGPC subsidiary, Green Power Bukidnon Philippines Inc., has inked a letter of intent for a 35-MW biomass plant in Bukidnon.
According to GGPC, the Department of Energy requested the company to accelerate the implementation of the projects, due to the severe power shortage in some parts of the country.
The three biomass facilities will use technology from DP CleanTech and fuel from agricultural waste, including rice husk, sugar cane residue and rice straw.
